Calcite
Calcite (CaCO3) shows birefringent optical properties, this means that it produces double refraction, so when viewing through a clear piece of calcite the light is split into fast and slow beams, so when the beams emerge from the material resultant image appears twice due to the two beams coming out at different angles.
Properties
- Transmission from 220nm to 1700nm
- Birefringent so the ordinary refractive index varies between 1.6 and 1.4 while the extraordinary refractive index varies between 1.9 and 1.5.
- Optical Characteristics.
Products
- Polarisers
- Retarders
